KAIKOHE WEST PRIMARY SCHOOL'S HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOL'S COUNCIL
The "Pauly" drinking fountain was designed and patented by Pappy Maihi, Property Manager of Kaikohe West Primary School.
The invention arose out of discussion raised by students at Kaikohe West Primary School's Health Promoting School's Council.
"The children on the Health Promoting School Council were concerned about the quality of their drinking water. A lot of students come from rural areas where they drink collected rain water. Since installing the "Maihi Enterprises Fountains" nobody complains. Teachers have commented that they have also seen a reduction in cordial consumption. Many students now bring their own water bottles and drink water from the fountains".

At another Health Promoting School where the “Pauly” had just been installed to replace old drinking fountains, a child asked the Caretaker “Matua, does this water have sugar in it?”
